Description

Ophidian Memory is an American melodic death metal project based in Des Moines, Iowa, driven by the singular creative vision of multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Blake Lamoureux. Since its inception in 2021, Ophidian Memory has steadily built a reputation for sculpting expansive, narrative-rich metal that fuses the intensity of melodic death metal with elements of black metal, thrash, progressive metal, and metalcore. Past releases have carved out a sprawling mythic universe where forces of light and darkness engage in cosmic conflict and Seraphim continues that trend.

Released digitally on November 7, 2025, Seraphim marks Ophidian Memory’s fourth full-length album and stands as a bold, cinematic centerpiece in the project’s evolving story. Clocking in with seven meticulously constructed tracks that span almost 50 minutes, the album sees Lamoureux further expanding Ophidian Memory’s sonic and narrative scope.

Recorded and mixed by Lamoureux himself and mastered by Rick Stallkamp, Seraphim balances crushing riffs, soaring melodic leads, and layered atmospheric textures to match its sweeping thematic ambition. The album also features a guest vocal appearance from Jacob Dieffenbach (former Rivers of Nihil) on the standout track “Cenotaph,” adding depth and dynamic contrast to the record.

Lyrically and conceptually, Seraphim operates as both a narrative sequel to Our Shattered Garden and a climactic chapter in the overarching saga of Existence. Across the continent of The Meadow, Seraphs, Primordials, and humans collide in apocalyptic conflict, weaving tales of alliance, betrayal, and prophecy. Themes of fire, beauty through destruction, inner duality, and the forging of new forces against tyrannical oppression run throughout the album’s arc.
